Light as carrier of information and energy is of special interest in laser glass technology, telecommunication, optoelectronic and multimedia industry. The avai-liability of suitable materials for photonic applications and the meeting of the demands for these materials are essential for the technological progress.
At present, the studies are focused on following problems:
For these purposes, special fluoride based glasses have to be developed concerning its composition (several glass forming systems with variable values of several dopants), structure (local structure), and properties (optimized absorption, emission, high quantum yield, slope efficiency).
Further work is focused on preparation of inexpensive thin solid films as potential functional layers (light emission, photovoltaic and sensoric applications).
